↑55 | Sidenote: My greatgrandfather was Paul Marlow Edwards. My grandfather, Robert Smets Edwards lived in Meldrim, GA. He passed away in 1965, when I was 15 yrs. old. He would sometimes talk about the stories, or facts, his father related to him. He said his Father once told him they were in a fight at NOONDAY CREEK, which I now know was near Brushy Mountain, on the extreme right of the Kennesaw line. He said his father said that they were fighting union troops armed with repeating rifles. His father’s best friend was shot in the head, and they laid him on the floor, a few feet inside the front door of the church. When my Grandfather was 12 yrs. old, his father took him on a train trip to northwest georgia to some of the sites where he had fought. There was a bloodstain engrained in the wooden floor of Noonday Church precisely where his father said they had laid his buddy. I have a 1859-0 silver dollar that my grandfather told me was the one they gave his father in North Carolina for the parole. I hope this may in some way add a little information to your archives, Thank You! Robert Henson. |
