Ben Hill County, Georgia Genealogy and History

Ben Hill, Georgia’s 146th county, was named for former Confederate and U.S. Senator, Benjamin Harvey Hill. Ben Hill County is located in the South Central portion of Georgia and was created in 1906 from portions of Irwin and Wilcox counties. Fitzgerald is the County Seat. Ben Hill County’s population according to the 2000 census was 17,484 out of which 8,758 lived in the town of Fitzgerald.
