Minnie Lee Starks Ingle, 78, of Gilmer County, Ellijay, GA, died June 1, 2000. Mrs. Ingle was born September 16, 1921, the daughter of Howard M. Starks and Cordelia Burgess. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Leon Ingle; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Hal Port, Hilda and Neil Carnes and Kay Lorraine Knight; daughter-in-law, Anita Boring Ingle; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and sister, Annie Mae McGahee. Funeral services were held June 4, 2000 at East Ellijay Baptist Church with Rev. Edmund Miller and Rev. Steve Fields officiating. Interment was in the East Ellijay Baptist Church Cemetery. Montgomery B. Smith, 83, died May 25, 1952 in Gilmer County, East Ellijay, GA. Mr. Smith spent practically his entire life in East Ellijay. He owned and operated a farm on Turniptown but devoted most of his time up until the county voted in stocklaw, to buying and shipping cattle. He was a strong believer in the open range for cattle and made a hard fight for open range each time the question of fences or no fences was brought up for vote. Ollie Barclay Sellers, 79, died September 23, 1951 in Gilmer County, Ellijay, GA. She was the former Miss Ollie Barclay and was a native of Kentucky. The family came to Georgia when she was just a child and settled in Murray County, GA. Later the family moved to Ellijay where she had resided for approximately sixty years. Robert L. Milton, 79, died April 16, 1951. Born April 27, 1871, in Gilmer County, GA, Mr. Milton had been Deputy Sheriff, Deputy US Marshal, County Sheriff for 19 years, Chief of Police at McCaysville, GA for two years, and Ellijay Chief of Police for thirteen years before retirement in 1947 because of failing health. W. F. Quillian, 77, died at his home in Gilmer County, Ellijay, GA on July 4, 1946. A native of this county, Mr. Quillian resided in East Ellijay many years and was well-known through Gilmer, having once offered as a candidate for state senator. He was a carpenter by trade but some fifteen years ago moved to Ellijay where he established a grist mill which he continued to operate until his health gave way. W. K. Reece, 83, died August 28, 1951 in Blue Ridge, GA. A native of Pickens County, Mr. Reece came to Gilmer County, Ellijay, GA in 1900 and for many years was prominently identified in business here, conducting a general mercantile business near the Shippen lumber mill. Mr. Reece operated a lumber business in connection with his store and for many years was a large buyer and shipper of lumber, ties, pulpwood and tanbark. William Bailey, 15, died January 13, 1953 in Canton, GA. He was the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Young A. Bailey. His father was a Methodist minister who retired from his pastorate and is now city clerk and treasurer.
