Clodfelter, 74, of Rt. 1, Comer died Tuesday in a local hospital following a sudden illness. Services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Meadow Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Pettyjohn, Dr. Virgil Edwards and the Rev. Malcom Gunnells officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Effingham – a county in the east part of Georgia, has an area of 480 square miles. It is situated between the Savannah and Ogeechee rivers, which respectively form its boundaries on the east and west; the former separates it from South Carolina. The county is also drained by Ebenezer creek. The surface is level, and partly covered with forests of pine and cypress; the soil is sandy, and, with small exceptions, unproductive. Lagrange, Troup County Georgia History

In 1825 the Indian Springs treaty was made whereby Georgia secured from the Creek Indians the vast tract of land lying between the Flint and the Chattahoochee rivers. Troup County, one of the five made from this territory was opened for settlement in 1827.
