The Old Methodist
Chapel in Irwinton was established before 1828. The Irwinton Baptist
and Methodist Churchs were burned around 1853. (Note: The Irwinton
Free Church (later Union Church) was established in Feb. 1854,
therefore the church fires probably happened in 1853.). The Methodist then
shared the Irwinton Free Church, now the Union Church with the Baptist
and Presbyterians. Some of the early members were: Green B. Burney,
Thomas N. Beall, Dr. William Fisher, Judge J. C. Bower, Samuel Beall, W.
I. Chambers, E. J. Gilbert, George W. Tarpley. See Union
Church.
