Augusta Chronicle :
"A MELANCHOLY CIRCUMSTANCE
On Wednesday, the 2d ult., in Wilkinson County, Mr. Jerry Hatcher, eldest Son of Maj. John Hatcher, in a hunting party, had taken a stand, when the drive was nearly out, one of the company who was some distance off, observing his strike one of the dogs with the butt end of his gun, which fired at the same instant and, melancholy to relate, the load entered near his mouth and passed out of the top of his head. He expired about three hours later. Mr. Hatcher was a young man much respected and esteemed by those who were acquainted with him, and who Sincerely regret the fatal accident.
From the course of the shot and the manner in which he struck the dog, it is evident the gun must have been cocked. He has left a Disconsolate Widow, affectionate parents and connections to bemoan his untimely end."

We the Grand Inquest for the county of Wilkinson do present Robert Rutherford, Esq. for illiberally and ungentlemanly observations against a former Petit Jury of this county, by calling them repeatedly a set of perjured wretches, with many reproachful aspersions towards the county and its citizens at large-Witnesses, John Hardie, Wheriat Lewis and Thomas M'Ginty.
We present as a grievance, the illiberal and too common conduct of some part of the Bar, in abusing, ridiculing, and endeavoring to defame the characters of suitors and witnesses, and feign would hope, that the period is not very far distant when the court will think proper to repel such conduct in court.

COMMUNICATED.   The Patriots of '76 are dropping off one at a time; we have now but few left; yet we have the consolation to know that true patriotism exists in the rising generation. -At the house of Archibald M'Intyre, Esquire, of Twiggs county, on the 12th inst. Col. JOHN LAWSON expired, after an illness of only two days.  He had literally grown grey in the service of his country. It is well known that during the revolutionary struggle, he took an active part in behalf of Freedom. He lived many years after to enjoy the blessings his hard toils had wod. He has filled some of the most important statins in the civil as well as military departments of the state. In his death, society has lost a truly benevolent & patriotic citizen, and his friends and relations a humane and tender parent and virtuous friend. - a few days before his death, to wit, on the morning of the 7th instant, his youngest son, ANDREW LAWSON, Esquire, Sheriff of Twiggs county, departed this life at the house of David Delk in the county of Wilkinson, on his way home from Washington. His illness was short tho' severe, yet he bore it with that fortitude that becomes a rational and intelligent being, conscious of having done his duty-few young men would be more lamented.

UNCHARTERED BILLS
Irwinton, November 28, 1817
At a meeting of the merchants, post-master, mechanics and citizens of this town on the 19th instant, the following resolution was unanimously adopted with respect to Bills issued by unchartered Banks. It is thought by us that the necessity for change bills other than those issued by chartered banks, ceased one year since, until which time they were highly advantageous.
"Resolved, That from and after the 10th day of December next, we will not receive in payment of any debt due us, or which may be due us after that time, for merchandise, or in any manner whatever, printed notes, bills, or orders, except those issued by incorporated banks. "
Some of the subscribes have long since emitted change bills, for which they will pay current money on application, and are anxious for all persons who are now in possession of their bills to present them immediately. The subscribers are anxious in order to free the illiterate from imposition for the banks to issue specie change.
