A Golden Wedding Anniversary
was celebrated in Irwinton by Mr. and Mrs. John Norton Todd on June 21.
(Mrs. Todd was the former Laura Iverleen Wood). The reception was held
at the residicen of Judge and Mrs. George H. Carswell, which was the girlhood
home of Dot Wood and where she was married June 22, 1897. The
couple were married by Rev. W. S. Baker went by horse & buggy to McIntyre
to board the train for their wedding tour.

James. M. Gibson, a native of Gordon and
son of C. F. and Leila Gibson, (died 1911) was the mayor of Symna,
Ga 1949 - 1953 and 1958 - 1960. In 1921, he got his nickname after
Hoot Gibson, the cowboy actor, while in the navy and "took a fling at boxing."
He knocked down 7 times, in first round, in Panama Canal Zone. "The audience
started yelling, "Hoot", get yourself a mule." The nickname stuck.":
