Balls Ferry 1935
"The shorter man on the left is my Grandfather, Hoke Smith Thompson, my dad wasn`t sure who the person on the right was, Hoke had several people who helped with the ferry. The child at the right rear of the car is either my Father, Buddy Thompson, or his brother Russell Thompson. The photo was taken on the Washington county side of the river, the shack on the right side background is where the ferryman stayed during the day. The cyprus tree at the rivers edge directly down from the shack has a metal bar nailed in it marking the highest point of the river during the big flood of 1934 (I think thats when it happened), the tree is still standing today." Harold Thompson
