Asbury Methodist Church
Hwy 18 S. near Twiggs County line. Organized prior to 1850.

According to Victor Davidson, in History of Wilkinson County the church was named in honor of Bishop Asbury the church was organized by Rev. Charles G. Johnson prior to 1850. Fletcher Reed and his wife Mrs. Frances Reed, built an arbor and Charles G. Johnson, aided by William Griffin, conducted the first meetings under this arbor.
The building was erected in 1851 on land donated by Hardy Durham, the deed being made to C. G. Johnson, William M. Dennard, William Griffin, Kelly Glover and A.H. Moore Trustees. The building is on the old homeplace of Dr. Fletcher Reed.
Early pastors were Rev. Charles G. Johnson, William Griffin, C.B.G Johnson (son of Rev.  C. G. Johnson and Margaret Vinson Johnson). Early stewards were Oliver Johnson, Marshall Dennard and William Veal. A sunday school was maintained here soon after the church was built.
