Jack Ellington Obituary

Jack Ellington, 29, died March 27, 1941 at Camp Stewart near Savannah in Chatham County, GA. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Horace M. Ellington, Jack was born and reared in Gilmer County, Ellijay, GA. On February 22, 1941, he enlisted in the anti-aircraft division of the coast artillery and was sent to Camp Stewart near Savannah. He was stricken ill shortly after he enlisted and was carried to the station hospital at Camp Stewart, where he passed away March 27, 1941. Jack was a member of the Ellijay Baptist Church. He is survived by his step-mother; brothers, Frank, Bill and James Ellington; sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Cantrell, Mrs. Edith Hamby, Miss Clara Belle Ellington, Mrs. Lucille Ray and Miss Elizabeth Ellington. Funeral services were held from the Baptist Church in Ellijay on March 30, 1941 with the Rev. J.H. Knight and Rev. W. L. Jolley officiating. Pall bearers were Andy Morgan, Hayden Kell, Clyde Milton, Lawrence Tankersley, C. H. Hyatt and Frank Hall. The body was laid to rest in the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery. B. C. Logan and Sons were in charge of the arrangements.
