Mary Elizabeth Bell Simmons, 88, died May 17, 1948 in Gilmer County, GA. Born September 18, 1859 in Madison County, TN she moved with her family to Jonesboro, AR where she met and married the late Mr. L. M. Simmons who brought her to the Cartecay community where they lived until his death in 1923. Since then she has made her home in Ellijay. She was a member of Cartecay Methodist Church. Mary Foster Milton, 74, died March 1, 1950 in Gilmer County, East Ellijay, GA. A native of this county, she was born March 3, 1875, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. H. “Bud” Foster, and was reared in Ellijay. Mrs. Milton was a member of Watkins Memorial Methodist Church. Besides her husband, Robert L. Milton, she is survived by one daughter, Miss Marie Milton; three sons, Paul, Foster and Herbert Milton. Funeral services were held March 3, 1950 at the Watkins Memorial Methodist Church. Mattie W. Jarrett Kelly, 82, died January 27, 1954 in Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Kelly is survived by her husband, C. B. Kelly. Funeral services were held January 29, 1954 at the Ellijay First Baptist Church. Maude Davis Pinson, died December 29, 1929 after only a few hours illness causing a great shock and a feeling of sincere regret among a wide circle of friends through the county. Mrs. Pinson who apparently was enjoying her usual health was taken suddenly ill Sunday morning with what was first thought to be a stroke of paralysis. Doctors were immediately summoned and all that medical aid and loving hands could do was done to relieve her suffering. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Montgomery B. Smith, 83, died May 25, 1952 in Gilmer County, East Ellijay, GA. Mr. Smith spent practically his entire life in East Ellijay. He owned and operated a farm on Turniptown but devoted most of his time up until the county voted in stocklaw, to buying and shipping cattle.
